Cerebral Cortex is the outer layer of the gray tissue of the brain, which is responsible for higher nervous functioning.

Chronic Insomnia – is one of the types of insomnia, which occurs at least three days every week and lasts more than half a year. Such factors as some hormonal fluctuations, aging, some medical conditions and / or treatment, as well as psychiatric illness, etc. may become the possible reason of chronic insomnia.

Chronotherapy
is one of the light therapy kinds. During it bright light is applied with the aim of affecting some change in sleep patterns of a person.

Circadian
means exhibiting a periodicity of 24 hours.

Circadian Rhythm
is the daily rhythmic activity cycle, exhibited by many living organisms, which is based on 24 – hour intervals. It is especially related to fluctuation of behavioral and physiological functions, including sleep walking.

Circadian Rhythm Sleep Disorders
are disorders, which have anything to do with the timing of sleep within the 24 – hour period. Some of such disorders may be influenced by the timing of the sleep period, which is under the control of a person, for example shift work, time zone change, etc; though, other disorders are of the neurological character: irregular sleep – wake pattern, advanced sleep phase syndrome, etc.

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) is a special machine, which helps people, suffering from apnea breathe more easily during their sleep. It works by sending blowing air at a constant continuous pressure. The patient should put the mask on his face, which is connected to a special pump that forces air into the nasal passages at high pressure, before he or she is going to sleep. The pressure is high enough to overcome the obstructions in the airway and, thus it helps to stimulate normal breathing process.
