Parasomnias is the kind of sleep disorder, which is characterized by intruding into the process of sleep and creating disruptive sleep – related events. These events and experiences as a rule occur with the person during the sleeping period, and they are mostly of an infrequent and mild character. However, it is also possible that they may happen to become often enough and they may even get so much bothersome, that there will be a necessity for a medical attention. The typical classification of the parasomnias is the following: 1. arousal disorders; 2. parasomnias, associatred with REM sleep; 3. sleep – wake transition disorders; 4. other types of parasomnias.
Phase Advance is called any shift, which is earlier in time. For example, in case if some person begins to go to bed earlier as well as to wake up earlier, Phase Advance is considered to take place.
Phase Delay is called any shift, which is later in time. For example, in case if some person’s sleep cycle moves ahead on the clock.
Polysomnogram (PSG) is the name of the procedure, during which the continuous and simultaneous recording of physiological variables during sleep takes place. Such variables as EEG, EOG, EMG – these are the three main stage scoring parameters, EKG, lower limb movement, respiratory air flow, respiratory excursion, and others are recorder during the Polysommnogram procedure.
Polysomnograph is called the test of sleep cycles and stages, which is based on the application of continuous recordings of brain waves (EEG), blood pressure, blood oxygen saturation, breathing rate, electrical activity of muscles, eye movement, which is also called electrooculogram, heart rhythm, as well as on the direct observation of the sleeping person.
