| Altitude Insomnia | There are two types of travelers. The first type of passengers sleep the whole flight and wake up only for having drink. Another group has troubles with sleeping while their flight and it’s too hard for them to fall asleep and have a good rest.
The reason why a person has troubles with sleep during their flight is not just because of the noise, which surrounds you, but also the fact of crossing so many time zones.
Travel insomnia can be a problem for everybody. Even if you are absolutely healthy person, you might experience certain sleeping disorder.
Here are some good advice on how to manage the sleeping problems you might face during traveling.
1. Sleeping pills with short-time action will be appropriate for people, who suffer from altitude insomnia. There is wide range of sedatives: benzodiazepines (the slightest tranquilisers), doxylamine succinate (sedating antihistamine), zolpidem (hypnotic action). But first one should try the drug at home to see if it works. It should be mentioned that a lot of doctors are against such way of fighting with insomnia because of different health risks connected with it (e.g. vein thrombosis).
2. If you are not a partisan of chemical medicine, try some herbal preparations. For example, valerian root have calming action.
3. Don’t abuse alcohol drinks, even if they are free on the plane or in the train. Even light beer may cause couple day insomnia and headache afterwards.
4. Also one should avoid using caffeine. The best variants of soft drinks for traveling are mineral water or fruit juice.
5. Choose comfortable and warm clothes for the flight.
6. Choose window sit if you want to have some rest and not to be disturbed by stewardess with the trolley or other passengers making their way to the toilet. Try to avoid the last row near the toilet (otherwise you will be woken up from time to time by flushing).
7. Fasten your seatbelt in the beginning of the flight so won’t be woken up by the stewardess in case of turbulence zone.
8. Use an eye mask, earplugs and a pillow for your neck for sleeping. It will help you to fall asleep faster and have a better rest. Even if you can’t asleep it will give some rest for your tired eyes.
9. If you came to the destination after a night flight-have one day rest before you begin your “active” rest or business. And don’t even think about driving. Give your brain some rest and take a taxi to the hotel.
