| Famous Insomniacs | If there is someone, suffering from insomnia, there is no need to get worried about it at all, as this person proved to be in quite a good company. Many meaningful people in history suffered from insomnia as well, beginning from great leaders of some country, and up to renowned artists. Moreover, taking show business into account, there is a great number of famous insomniacs there as well. Here comes the list of people, famous all over the world, who suffered from this kind of sleep disorder, though, this did not prevent them from being successful at all.
Marilyn Monroe This famous film star was belonged to regular insomniacs, and it was often enough, that she had to take sleeping pills, with the aim of getting to sleep finally. And, unhappily, her insomnia grew steadily worse and worse over the years, and up until her death, the possible reason of which is considered an overdose of those very sleeping pills. Vincent Van Gogh This artist considered that insomnia is his very own problem, so, he preferred to deal with it purely by himself. The main insomnia remedy consisted of a strong camphor dose, which was applied to his pillow and to his mattress and this, while possibly helping him with falling asleep, worked as a steady poison for him as well. Napolean Napolean Bonaparte built an empire, relying only on a few hours of sleep at a time. This so – called “Little Emperor” was suffering from insomnia so much and so frequently, that it considered unusual for him to spend more than four hours a night sleeping. Though, he did not apply any kind of remedy, but only learned to live with this condition. Amy Lowell Whenever this famous woman – poet stayed in a hotel, she would always hire five rooms: one room was for sleep, and four more empty rooms – above, below and on either side, which would provide the guaranteed quietness. W. C. Fields When he got older, Fields restored to quite unusual methods of falling asleep. He would stretch out in a barber’s chair, as he always enjoyed getting haircuts, with towel, being wrapped around him. He spent in this condition so much up until he felt sleepy. Sometimes he also managed to fall asleep only by stretching out on his pool table. However, on his most sleepless nights, Fields could only fall asleep under a beach umbrella being sprinkled by a garden hose. He used to tell his friends that “somehow a moratorium is declared on all my troubles when it is raining”. Alexandre Dumas This famous writer suffered from terrible insomnia, and after he had tried practically all existing remedies, he got an advice from some well – known doctor to get out of bed when he did not feel like sleep at all. In the result of it he began to take late – night strolls and, finally started to sleep through the night.
