Besides some above mentioned, there also exist some health conditions, such as arthritis, which cause pain, and, in its order pain becomes the reason of difficulty of falling asleep. In addition, any other chronic pain, a person may be suffering from may wake him or her up during the night.
If a person suffers from diabetes, leg edema, enlarged prostate or incontinence, these are the health problems, which may cause more frequently urinating. If the fact that person’s bladder capacity shrinks with years is added, then it is possible that a person may be getting up at night to use the bathroom more often than it used to be in the younger years. And if someone gets up often, he or she may have difficulties with getting back to sleep.

Other health conditions, such as heard disease or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), can possibly become the reasons of breathing problems. In case if someone has troubles with maintaining steady rhythmic breathing while being asleep, then this person may wake up several times in the middle of the night. And, it has already been mentioned that waking up like this may prevent a person from reaching deep sleep again.

Anyway, every person, who has noticed that insomnia came with age, should pay attention at what is the reason of his or her waking up at night time or what keeps him or her from falling asleep. After that it would be advisably to have a talk to the doctor about some specific health conditions. And, remember, that even the least changes to the treatment plan can reduce the sleep disturbances significantly!

Anxiety and depression
For every senior person any extra anxiety, depression and other emotional problems may become the reason of night sleep problems. At the same time, however, not sleeping at night or getting up too often during a night sleep may also add to the anxiety and become possible reason of depression. Anyway, everyone should realize that depression, as well as anxiety can be serious conditions. Nobody should ever hesitate to tell his or her doctor, in case of experiencing any feelings of sadness or anxiousness, which keep a person up at night. Remember: each of these feelings is able to be treated; moreover, they are to be treated!

Medications and other substances
As every person gets older, he or she is more likely to apply some types of medications. But before taking any, it is necessary to have a talk with the doctor about these medications, as well as about the chance that they may become the possible reason of insomnia. If a doctor knows that his patient has any problems with either falling asleep or staying asleep, then he may prescribe some different drugs, which would not cause insomnia, or it is also possible, that the doctor may discuss some possible changing the time of day, the person takes this medication.

There exist some medications, which can make it difficult for a person either to fall asleep or to stay asleep. Most of these medications are quite commonly taken. These drugs are the following:

•  Beta blockers;
•  Bronchodilators;
•  Calcium channel blockers;
•  Corticosteroids;
•  Cardiovascular drugs;
•  Decongestants;
•  Gastrointestinal drugs;

In addition, it is not a secret for most people that such common non prescription drugs, as caffeine, nicotine and alcohol can also become possible reason of insomnia. This is why it is necessary to try to cut down on any of these, or even eliminate them altogether.
