| Why Spend One Third Of the Life Sleeping | Sleep is truly considered to be such a natural part of everyone’s life that very few people give it any real thought. Therefore, this little so “unnoticeable” thing that all people do every day beginning from the day of their arrival and up to the day of their death, and which for the average person represents not less than twenty seven hears out of his or her existence, should, of no doubt, merit at least a little amount of consideration.
In circles of experts, where sleep is discussed as being something surprisingly controversial, there is quite a considerable difference of opinion over seemingly such simple questions as why people sleep, how much sleep everyone needs, the ideal sleeping environment, why some of people sleep too much, while others do not seem to sleep enough time.
Despite numerous disagreements among the sleep experts, there is at least one general agreement that all people need to have sleep, otherwise so much time would not be spent doing it, and that sleep is everyone’s way of giving the necessary rest to the body and to the mind. In accordance with some early sleep investigations, the body during the process of sleep, entered into some kind of a state, which was considered to be near paralysis, and that very little activity occurred during this period of time. Therefore, nowadays everyone knows, that this is not the case, and that the brain in particular is extremely active during the sleeping process and that it keeps such a complex sleep cycle under its strict control, taking the entire body in and out of different levels of activity in a five stage repeating process.
Although, it can seem that sleep is something, necessary for the body to get recharged after a busy day, there are people, who consider sleep to be nothing more than just a waste of time, and that everyone can train himself to manage a lot less sleep. Actually, any person can really do without sleep or at least with very little sleep in the short – term manner. Besides there are lots of people, who do stay without sleep for long periods of time because of their work conditions, and while it is possible that someone may get irritable and has some concentrating problems, the body as well as the mind of this person will go on functioning.
Therefore, it should be pointed out, that it will not take long before a person, who spends a lot of time sleepless, starts to run into all possible kinds of problems and his mind in particular starts to lose its ability to plan events. Moreover, this person’s memory will start to fail and he will begin to have troubles in putting together a coherent sentence, in the same way as might be seen if he has consumed rather too much alcohol.
In case if someone will still continue to stay without sleep, his body will start showing signs of physical stress in no time, and he will lose the ability to regulate his body temperature in a proper way. Moreover the out metabolism begins to get increased. Simultaneously somewhere at this point the mind of a sleepless person begins to play tricks and he begins to experience all kinds of hallucinations.
There is no doubt, that everyone needs sleep and for now it would be enough to say that sleep is the humans’ way of “recharging batteries”. The true reason will finally be discovered one day and it may well be that people are able indeed to manipulate their sleeping patterns at some point in the future. Therefore, nowadays going short of sleep will only run a person into all kinds of trouble.
